Abstract
The post-COVID era has accelerated digital transformation in the banking sector, particularly in emerging economies such as China. Despite significant investments, traditional Chinese commercial banks continue to underperform. This study examines how digital transformation affects bank performance, while considering the moderating roles of financial inclusion and market concentration— two underexplored contextual factors. Grounded in Resource Dependence Theory, the study employs a two-step system GMM estimator using panel data from 114 Chinese banks (2014–2021).
