Abstract
This study examines the evolving performance characteristics of Jinji Dance, focusing on the interplay between its traditional and contemporary forms. While Jinji Dance remains a core expression of Miao cultural identity, little scholarly attention has been paid to how its modern adaptations engage with traditional meanings. To address this gap, the study analyzes key components dance style, movement, music, costume design, and thematic content that reflect the symbolic values of Miao heritage. Guided by Peirce’s semiotic framework, which conceptualizes meaning-making through the triadic relation of object, representamen, and interpretant, the research explores how symbolic elements embedded in performance contribute to deeper cultural meaning construction.
