Abstract
Policy guidance, technological advancement, and economic prosperity have driven the rapid development of smart cities in China. However, the unsustainable nature of smart city construction, citizen distrust, and poor media reputation have led to low public awareness of smart cities, resulting in a lack of smart city services, resource waste, and a shortage of sustainable development funding. This study evaluated variables that may influence the sustainable development of smart cities. The specific hypothesis is that the smart city evaluation system (independent variable) influences the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of smart cities (dependent variable) through citizen trust (mediating variable). The relationship between the smart city evaluation system and citizen trust is moderated by social media (moderating variable). This research paradigm is guided by sustainable development theory and supplemented by social trust absorption theory.
