Abstract
The translation of literary works evolves over time, reflecting shifts in linguistic conventions, ideological influences, and translator competence. However, existing research on the true story of ah q has focused on individual translations, lacking a diachronic analysis of how these factors change across different historical periods. This study addresses this gap by conducting a diachronic corpus-based analysis of five english translations produced between 1926 and 2009, highlighting the progressive evolution of translators’ styles, ideological adaptation, and translation competence. By combining quantifiable linguistic data—generated using corpus tools including antconc and the multidimensional analysis tagger (mat)—with qualitative text analysis, the study adopts a mixed-methods design that integrates computational and interpretive approaches. The findings reveal distinct lexical, syntactic, and textual patterns that reflect changing linguistic norms and translator preferences over time. Additionally, shifts in modality, nominalization, and domestication illustrate how translators have aligned lu xun’s work with the socio-political contexts of their respective periods.
