Abstract

This thesis investigates the impact of a curriculum development program in Jordan aimed at integrating 21st century skills into the science curriculum for 7th grade students. The study assesses the extent to which these skills are incorporated into the science textbook and examines students' acquisition of these skills. Three main skill categories, comprising 11 sub skills, are analyzed: Learning and Innovation Skills, Information, Media and Technology Skills, and Life and Career Skills. The research sample consist s of seventh grade science textbooks and 80 seventh grade students, evenly distributed between genders. A pre test post test design is employed, supplemented by document analysis, quantitative analysis of student skills acquisition, and thematic analysis of student interviews. Statistical analyses include paired samples t test and independent samples t test to assess skill acquisition and gender differences. Results indicate appropriate integration of 21st century skills into the seventh grade science curriculum, with Learning and Innovation Skills being the most prominent. However, Information, Media, and Technology skills are relatively underrepresented. Gender differences in skill acquisition are minimal, although variations are observed in specific skills. Analysis of student interviews supports findings from document analysis and student Tests, indicating the influence of curriculum content on skill acquisition.
