Abstract

The area around openings in the form of doors, windows, and for mechanical and electrical services in axially loaded structural masonry panels are subjected to high stress concentration. There is a possibility of tension developing around these openings near the corners. Furthermore, the presence of these openings could affect the ultimate strength of the masonry panel.
