Abstract
Macrophage phagocytosis acts as the first line of defence against malaria parasites infection in the innate immune system. Once activated, macrophages act as inflammatory and microbicidal cells through the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide (NO). In this study, the immunoregulatory effects of a recombinant BCG (rBCG) clone expressing the 19-kDa C-terminus of the merozoite surface protein-1 (MSP-1C) of Plasmodium falciparum was examined on the mouse macrophage cell line J774A.1.
