Abstract
Tesis ini mengk:aji tentang sejarah sosioekonomi dan politik orang Cina di
Bahagian Kuching yang memberi tumpuan kepada peranan orang Cina dalam
pembangunan Daerah Bau sejak zaman pemerintahan Kesultanan Brunei hingga
Dinasti Brooke. Ia memberi fokus utama kepada pembangunan Daerah Bau yang
dicapai oleh orang-orang Cina yang telah membawa kemajuan ekonomi kepada
bandar Kuching. Tesis ini juga membincangk:an tentang sumbangan orang Cina
terhadap kemajuan di Bandar Kuching.
This thesis is a study on the socio-economic and political history of Kuching
Division. The focus is on the role of the Chinese in the development of the Bau
District from the Brunei Sultanate era until the Brooke Dynasty. The main focus of
this thesis is on the development of Bau District achieved by the Chinese which
brought about the development ofthe town ofKuching. This thesis also examines the
contribution of the Chinese towards the development of Kuching Town.
