Abstract
Umumnya sektor Industri Kecil dan Sederhana (IKS) seringkali dikatakan
berfungsi sebagai tulang belakang perindustrian negara. Namun prestasi dan
sumbangannya IKS kepada pertumbuhan ekonomi Malaysia masih rendah. Terdapat
pelbagai masalah yang dihadapi oleh firma IKS yang beroperasi di negara ini, antaranya
ialah yang berunsurkan teknologi, penyelidikan dan pembangunan (R&D) dan eksport
produk dan perkhidmatan yang dikeluarkan.Teknologi yang digunakan oleh firma
industri kecil dan sederhana kerapkali tidak cekap dan biasanya sudah ketinggalan
zaman. Ini akan mewujudkan firma IKS yang tidak cekap dan tidak berdaya saing dalam
arus globalisasi.
In general, the Small and Medium scale industrial sector is often considered to be
the backbone on the nation's industrialisation process. Yet the performance and the
contribution of SMEs to Malaysia's economic growth is still minimal. A myriad of
problems confront SMEs currently operating in Malaysia. Among them are problem
associated with technology, research and development and problems pertaining to export
of products and services . The technology utilized in the manufacturing process in SMEs
are often inefficient and obsolete. Consequently those has result in SMEs experienced
inefficiency are unable to be competitive in the era of globalisation.
