Abstract

Satu kajian hirisan-lintang telah dijalankan ke atas tiga kumpulan lelaki dewasa, berumur di antara 18 hingga 44 tahun di sekitar Kota Bham. Responden kajian terdiri daripada 83 ahli sukan terlatih (ahli sukan), 80 orang yang aktif bersenam (ahli senaman) dan 80 orang yang tidak aktif (sedentari). Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan status pemakanan dan kesihatan di antara ketiga-tiga kumpulan serta untuk melihat kesan program pendidikan pemakanan selama 12 minggu terhadap aras lipid serum di kalangan kumpulan aktif yang mempunyai aras kolesterol total yang tinggi. Keputusan kajian menunjukkan purata indek jisim tubuh (BMI) di kalangan kumpulan ahli sukan, ahli senaman dan sedentari ialah masingmasing 22.6, 23.4 dan 24.3 kglm2 , manakala kandungan lemak badan ialah 15.7, 18.9 dan 20.6%. Prevalens Iebih berat badan (BMI ;::: 25.0 kglm2 ) di kalangan ahli sukan ialah 21.7%, iaitu Iebih rendah berbanding dengan ahli senaman (29.9%) dan sedentari (47.5%). Masalah hipertensi (sistolik ;::: 140 mmHg dan/atau diastolik ;::: 90 mmHg) di kalangan ahli sukan (13.2%) juga lebih rendah berbanding dengan ahli senaman (17.5%) dan sedentari (42.5%). Masalah anemia (hemoglobin < 13 giL) di kalangan ahli sukan ialah 10.8%, iaitu lebih tinggi berbanding dengan ahli senaman A cross-sectional ~tudy was conducted among three groups of men, aged 18 to 44 years, around Kota Bharu. The respondents studied comprised of 83 trained athletes (athlete group), 80 active exercisers (exercise group), and 80 inactive men (sedentary group). The objective of this study is to compare the nutritional and health status of respondents, and to evaluate the effect of a 12-week nutrition education programme on the lipid profile of the active respondents who had total cholesterol value of 5.7 mmollL and above. The results showed that the mean body mass index (BMI) among athlete, exercise, and sedentary groups were 22.6, 23.4 and 24.3 kg/m2 , respectively, while their mean percentage of body fat were 15.7, 18.9 and 20.6%, respectively. The prevalence of overweight (BMI ~ 25.0 kg/m2 ) among the athlete, exercise and sedentary groups were 21.7%, 29.9% and 47.5%, respectively. The prevalence of hypertension among athletes (13 .2%) was also higher than the exercise (17.5%) and sedentary (42.5%) groups. The prevalence of anemia (Hb < 13 giL) among athletes was 10.8%, which was higher compared to the exercise (5.0%) and sedentary (2.5%) groups.(5.0%) dan sedentari (2.5%).
