Abstract

Nuclear transmutation is a process that changes one nuclide into another that contributes to radioactive waste and other applications. The remaining concentration of these nuclides evolves with time, as described by a system of linear differential equations known as the Bateman equation. The equation is more applicable in estimating the final concentration of nuclides in transmutation problems that are linear in a chain. For non-linear transmutation problems, the equation becomes more difficult. Several Bateman solvers, including Chebyshev Rational Approximation Method (CRAM) and Transmutation Trajectory Analysis (TTA), are proposed to solve these problems. One unresolved problem is to find a simple, reliable algorithm for solving stiff differential equations involving short-lived and long-lived nuclides. This research introduces a probabilistic approach to solving stiff linear differential equations in nuclear transmutation theory.
