Abstract
Global warming has led to significant changes in precipitation patterns and an increase in extreme events in tropical basins, posing serious challenges for water resource management. The Kelantan River Basin (KRB), located in a tropical region, is highly susceptible to water-related disasters, such as floods and droughts, which have created major challenges for the local water supply. This study evaluates future drought risk in the KRB under two greenhouse gas emission scenarios, SSP2-4.5 (intermediate emissions) and SSP5-8.5 (high emissions), which are widely used in climate change research and align with the global warming targets of 1.5°C and 2.0°C, respectively. To further explore the potential for climate intervention, GeoMIP6 experiments using Solar Radiation Management (SRM), specifically the G6solar and G6sulfur scenarios, were also considered in comparison with the SSP scenarios.
