Abstract
Spent bleaching earth (SBE), a solid waste generated by vegetable oil refining industries, poses significant environmental and disposal challenges due to its high oil content. This study explores the valorization of SBE as both a catalyst support and a feedstock for biodiesel production, offering a sustainable waste management solution. A novel alginate–SBE composite catalyst was synthesized via a simple impregnation method under optimal conditions, using a 1:4 ratio of sodium alginate to SBE/KOH (25%, 30% & 35%), followed by calcination at 600 °C.
