Abstract

This study undertakes a comprehensive analysis of ideological traces in George Sale’s English translation of selected Qur’anic verses, drawn from Chapters Al-Baqarah, An-Nisa’, An-Nahl, Al-Anbiya’, and Al-Ahzab. Anchored in House’s Translation Quality Assessment model (2014) and Van Dijk’s Theory of Ideology (2006), the research is driven by four principal questions focused on how linguistic choices reveal and reinforce ideology. By integrating analysis across textual, lexical, syntactic, and contextual dimensions including communicative purpose, participant roles, and discourse mode the study illuminates how Sale’s translation consistently employs lexical substitutions, interpretive paraphrasing, and structural shifts. These strategies significantly reshape the semantic and pragmatic nuance of the source text.
