Abstract

Objective: This study is aimed to assess the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding oxygen therapy among healthcare workers in the emergency department. Design: A cross- sectional survey was conducted among healthcare workers in the emergency department at three tertiary government hospitals in Kelantan, Malaysia. Material and Method: A printed and validated questionnaire was distributed to participants during continuous medical education. It consists of 38 questions. Data were then analysed using SPSS using multiple regression analysis. Results: Overall, all professions showed poor oxygen therapy knowledge, whereas doctors and nurses demonstrated good practice. Doctors showed a positive attitude toward oxygen therapy. An emergency healthcare worker in HTM has 5.66 times odds of having good knowledge than HRPZ (95% CI 2.35, 13.65; P < 0.001). On the other hand, doctor has 4.18 times the odds of having good knowledge as compared to nurse (95% CI 1.41, 12.43; P=0.010). Conclusions: Most HCP showed poor knowledge, with some having a positive attitude and practice. The hospital they are working in makes a difference. The guideline will further help improve HCP knowledge on oxygen therapy.
