Abstract
This study examines the evolution of realistic painting with humanistic themes in China from 1976 to 1989, a period of significant artistic transformation following the Cultural Revolution. Moving away from socialist idealism, Chinese artists embraced realism to depict everyday life, human emotions, and social realities. This research investigates the factors driving this shift, including changing social conditions, government policies, and increased artistic freedom. Employing a Marxist theoretical framework, the study analyzes four key artistic movements of the era: Scar Art, reflecting the trauma of the Cultural Revolution; Native Soil Art, portraying rural life; Neoclassical Realistic Art, blending traditional Chinese themes with Western techniques; and Revolutionary Historical Art, offering nuanced reinterpretations of historical events.
