Abstract
It is established that small and medium enterprises (smes) play a significant role in fostering economic development, jobs creation and driving overall industrial growth in developing countries. However, manufacturing smes in developing countries experience resource constraints and challenges in the adoption of advanced innovation practices in the rapidly changing business markets. Thus, these manufacturing smes depend on conventional business processes, which poses sustainability challenges by contributing to the higher failure rate but also endangering the societal well-being and environment. For this reason, the current study has developed a theoretical framework by integrating design leadership, knowledge management, top management mindfulness, organizational collaboration, resource mobilization, frugal innovation, and smes’ sustainability based on the resource-based view, upper echelon theory, and dynamic capability theory. The research model of this study was analyzed through partial least square structural equation modeling (pls-sem) with a sample of 388 from the owners and managers of manufacturing smes in pakistan.
