Abstract

Sarcopenia, characterised by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, is a common comorbidity among patients with chronic respiratory diseases, particularly those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd). However, its prevalence and associated factors among patients with chronic respiratory diseases in malaysia remain underexplored. Objective: this study aimed to determine the prevalence of sarcopenia and its impact on the quality of life of adults with asthma, copd, and tuberculosis (tb) in penang, malaysia. Methods: a crosssectional study was conducted among 469 adults diagnosed with asthma (n = 180), copd (n = 186), or tb (n = 103). Sarcopenia was defined using the asian working group for sarcopenia 2019 criteria, and independent associated factors were identified through multiple logistic regression. Quality of life was assessed using the eq-5d-5l and sarqol questionnaires, with key influencing factors determined via multiple linear regression.
