    Abstract

    Tujuan kajian adalah untuk mengetahui kualiti perkhidmatan guru di 8 buah sekolah menengah di Daerah Pulau, Pulau Pinang. Dalam kajian ini, semangat Piagam Sekolah dan ciri-ciri guru berkualiti yang dikenal pasti oleh Mohan & Hu11 (1975) dijadikan asas kepada penilaian klien. Ciri-ciri guru berkualiti tersebut ialah aspek personaliti guru dan aspek pengajaran guru. Kajian ini adalah kajian korelasi yang menggunakan soal-selidik sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpul data. Jumlah responden yimg terlibat ialah seramai 510 orang pelajar Tingkatan Lima yang dipilih secara rawak, mewakili 4 buah sekolah menengah kawalan dan 4 buah sekolah menengah biasa. Statistik deskriptif seperti min, kekerapan dan sisihan piawai digunakan bagi menunjukkan ciri-ciri demografi pelajar. Manakala statistik inferensi yang digunakan ialah Korelasi Spearman's rho bagi mengenal pasti hubungan di antara pembolehubah. This study aims to find out the quality of services provided by teachers in eight secondary schools in the Island District ofPenang. In this study, the spirit of the School Charter as well as the characteristics of quality teachers identified by Mohan & Hull (1975) are taken as basis for the clients' assessment. The characteristics of quality teachers are teachers' personality and teaching behaviour. This is a correlational study which uses a questionnaire as an instrument to gather data. The total number of respondents involved is 510 Form Five students who are chosen at random, from 4 controlled and 4 daily secondary schools. The dependent variables are the teachers' personality and the teaching behaviour while the independent vari~bles are the students' demographic factors, namely types of schools, gender, ethnic background and class streaming. Descriptive statistic such as mean, frequency and standard deviation is used to illustrate the students' demographic factors. Inference statistic, particularly Spearman's rho correlation is used to identify the relationship between the variables.
