Abstract

Apart from the determination of the optimum bitumen content, the choice of aggregate gradation significantly influences mix strength and durability. In ordinary practice, aggregate gradation is selected based on empirical studies or trial-and-error basis or application of some theories developed in the context of soil mechanics.
