Abstract

In 2003, after more than thirty years of using Bahasa Malaysia as the medium of instruction for all subjects, the Malaysian educational system started implementing a policy that made English the medium of instruction for Mathematics and the Sciences. This policy is commonly known by its Malay acronym, PPSMI (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris). In English, it stands for "English as the Language of Instruction for Mathematics and Sciences",
